Service Systems

Service systems are systems which support the delivery of services [Ref].

Service systems posess capabilities. The relationship between capabilities and service needs to be explored.

Service systems have assets - physical, human, process, and access to other services. They also have knowledge, information (or access to knowledge and information, through other service providers).

As service is hierarchical, the service system not only includes operational delivery of the service, but the meta-service of continual improvement. This means the management and co-ordination functions are part of the service system.

This structure implies that not only operational systems, but management and business intelligence, business continuity systems, etc. are part of the service system - although potentially as delivered services, rather than sub-components. It will depend on how the system is defined.
